The "Festival Artístico Cultural por los Derechos Humanos de las Mujeres Centroamericanas" (cultural artistic festival for the human rights of Central American women in English) will take place today at the Melico Salazar Theater in downtown San José.

The festival highlights the role of women during the 200 years since the independence of Central America.

More than 46 artists, including dancers, actors, poets and musicians will present their shows including rock, reggae, soul, hip hop concerts, among others. Theater is also on the schedule performed by the actor's groups Claroroscuro, Queens of Reggae, Nakury, among many others.

"With this festival, we wanted to make visible the historical struggles of Central American women to celebrate 200 years of Independence with a demand for equality and the full and effective use of all our rights," Vice President Epsy Campbell said.

The audience will be able to enjoy the show that will be broadcast on local Channel 13, which is the official government channel, as well as on the Festival's Facebook page.

The show is sponsored by The United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women, the European Union and the Embassy of Canada in Costa Rica and the Ministry of Culture among other organizations.
