By the
A.M. Costa Rica staff Improvements to
the electrical power infrastructure are
underway on the beaches of Santa Teresa and Manzanillo in Cóbano
District, Nicoya Peninsula, said the
Institute of Electricity. According to
officials, to improve electricity
services for approximately 4,000
customers, the project would include the
construction of 10 miles of wire,
semi-insulated cables and covers for
safeguarding animals, 15 concrete poles,
and 10 electric power transformers. The works seek to
strengthen the area's electrical power
and telecommunications services ahead of
the peak tourist season, which runs from
December to April. This is due to
increased demand from hotels,
restaurants, and other tourism-related
companies. These months resulted in an
inflow of travelers willing to escape
the colder weather in North America and
Europe.
"As
tourism rises in Cóbano, particularly
during peak season, the institute seeks to
improve electrical power supply to meet
the growing demand," said the institute's
representative, Sebastián Álvarez.
The
Institute of Electricity (ICE) is the
state-owned electrical power and
telecommunications services provider in
the country.
