Correos de
Costa Rica, the state-owned firm in
charge of mail delivery and shipping,
will carry out a massive DIMEX campaign
to issue ID cards to residents. DIMEX is
the government-issued ID card that Costa
Rica has for their foreign-born
residents. It's an Immigration Identity
Document for Foreigners. Authorities
plan to meet the needs of 1,300 people
during the major campaign, which
will run from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on
Saturday, Oct. 28 and Sunday, Oct. 29 at the
Correos facility in downtown San José. People
eligible to renew their DIMEX must first
make an appointment by dialing 1311
or registering
on the Correos website.
Interested individuals must also meet the following requirements:
1- Arrive at your appointment with your ID in good condition.
2- Present an original printed document issued by the General Directorate of Migration proving resident status approval.
3- Show a printed document proving that you have Social Security and that your monthly payments are current.
4- Show proof of payment issued by Banco De Costa Rica for the DIMEX application process. The operation will cost $250.
5- Show proof of payment for the DIMEX issuance fee of $75 issued by Correos. This second payment must likewise be made at the Costa Rican Bank.
6- Pay a fee of roughly $15 at the Post Office for the administrative fees of DIMEX issuing.
More information about these requirements can be reached by calling the Correos hotline at 2257-8888, Spanish only.
According to authorities, the goal of this initiative is to cut wait times and give people who need to complete their immigration documents a quick opportunity to do so.
