Costa Rican athlete wins two championships in Canada

Costa Rican athlete Josť Pablo Gil won two champion titles in the Bourassa Savaria international wheelchair tennis competition, which took place at the IGA Stadium in Montreal, Canada.

Gil took first place in the singles tournament as well as first place in the doubles competition, both in the wheelchair player category, according to the Sports Institute.


Gil defeated the United States player Jason Kaetseangsilp 6-0, 6-1 in the opening round.

An hour later, Gil paired up with another finalist, Conner Stroud of the United States, for the doubles competition. They won first place against Charlie Cooper and Jason Keatseangsilp of the United States. The final score in this tournament was 6-2, 6-1 with the victory of Gil and Stroud.

Gil has joined the ranks of Costa Ricans who have won medals in international competitions.   Recently, the Costa Rica team won twelve medals at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games, which took place in Chile.
