Another land was located in  Maleku Indigenous Territory, in Alajuela Province and the seventh property is located in the Zapatón Indigenous Territory in San José Province.

The institute said in its statement that a budget of around $2.1 million was required to cover the compensation mandated by law for individuals who claim the property register to complete the process of returning their lands to Indigenous peoples.

The National Commission for Indigenous Affairs (CONAI) leads the land recovery program project.  It attempts to meet the standards of the Indigenous legislation of 1977 and to protect Indigenous lands, territories, and natural resources in conformity with international human rights legislation.
