The Public Services Regulatory Authority (Aresep),  which is the State-owned agency in charge of setting the price of public services and products,  has authorized a modification in gasoline prices.

According to the Costa Rica Oil company (Recope), the state-owned firm in charge of importing, distributing and selling fuels in the country, the new gas prices reflect the most current trends in worldwide markets.

In the case of gasoline international market prices, the hurricane season and Middle East tensions are driving up global fuel prices.

In terms of diesel and liquefied gas prices reduced, may be attributed to the fact that it is summer in the northern hemisphere, which means that continuous use of diesel and gas for heating is decreasing. The price of this fuel in the international market was reduced at the time Costa Rica was negotiating its import.

The new prices will be as follows:

The super brand gasoline increased from ₡718 to ₡720 colones per liter. The new rate is around $1.38.

Plus 91 gasoline (known as regular) increased from ₡686 to ₡688 colones per liter. It costs approximately $1.32.

Diesel decreased from ₡619 to ₡597 colones per liter. The revised price is around $1.14.

Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), for use in heating appliances, cooking and vehicles, decreased from ₡7,571 colones to ₡7,503 colones per 25-pound gas cylinder, about $14.42.

The new prices become effective on Sunday, September 1, after being published in the official government bulletin La Gaceta.
