The Public Services Regulatory Authority (Aresep) has approved a reduction in gasoline prices.


The new prices requested by the Costa Rica Oil Company (Recope) represent the costs incurred in international market prices between October 11 and November 7, 2024, when Costa Rica was negotiating fuel import agreements.






The updated prices will be as follows:
  • Super-branded gasoline (RON 95) decreased from ₡685,- to ₡669,- colones per liter. The new rate is around $1.31 p/l.


  • Plus 91 gasoline (RON 91 known as regular gasoline) decreased from ₡668,- to ₡660,- colones per liter. It costs approximately $1.29 p/l.


  • Diesel decreased from ₡565,-  to ₡556,- colones per liter. The revised price is around $1.09 p/l.


  • Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), used in heating appliances, cooking and vehicles, increased from ₡7,126,-  to ₡7,379 colones per 25-pound gas cylinder, about $14.46 per unit.



The new prices will be effective this week after being published in the official government bulletin La Gaceta.



The Public Services Regulatory Authority (Aresep) is the State-owned agency in charge of setting the price of public services and products.



The Costa Rica Oil Company (Recope) is the State-owned company in charge of importing, distributing and selling fuels in the country.
