The
60th Copa del Café, an international tennis
tournament, will take place Jan. 13-18 at the
Costa Rica Country Club in Escazú, San
José Province.
The
tournament, part of the International Tennis
Federation calendar, was scheduled one week
earlier this year to align with other junior
tournaments, allowing players to compete in
Costa Rica before heading to the South
American circuit, which begins in Colombia
the following week.
The
competition will feature 64 players in the
under-18 category. Participants include
players from Costa Rica, the United States
(Mason Taube, Nicholas Mekhael, Sklar
Phillips, Gray Kelley, Avner Wong, and
Bullion Sharp), Canada (Jerry Han, Edgar
Vilain, and Clémence Mercier), as well as
France, Mexico, Denmark, Italy, and other
countries.
Day matches will begin at 8:30 a.m., while night matches will start at 7 p.m. Tickets are priced between $14 and $25 and can be purchased at the venue box office.
The tournament has undergone significant updates. For the first time, all daytime matches will be played on new indoor courts. “We will inaugurate four new courts, which, together with our four existing covered courts, will showcase eight beautiful indoor hard courts,” tournament organizers said in a statement. Night matches will continue to be played under the lights at the outdoor Stadium Court, which has a seating capacity of approximately 2,000 spectators. The Copa del Café recently received the Tournament Recognition Longevity Award from the ITF, honoring its decades-long tradition in junior tennis.
