The Public Services Regulatory Authority (Aresep) has approved price increases for liquefied gas, diesel, and gasoline.

The rise in gas prices requested by the Costa Rica Oil Company (Recope) is attributed to higher costs in international market prices during the fuel import negotiations, an increase in the exchange rate and a hike in the fuel tax.

The updated prices will be as follows:

The price of super-branded gasoline (RON 95) has increased from ₡666 to ₡671 colones per liter (p/l), roughly $1.34 p/l.

Regular gasoline (RON 91), also known as Plus 91, rose from ₡648 to ₡650 colones p/l, about $1.30 p/l.

Diesel prices
also climbed, from ₡560 to ₡570 colones p/l, approximately $1.14 p/l.

Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), commonly used for heating, cooking, and vehicles, has seen a price hike. The cost of a 25-pound gas cylinder has increased from ₡7,271 to ₡7,423 colones or about $14.85 per unit.

The new prices will be effective this week after being published in the official government bulletin La Gaceta.

The Public Services Regulatory Authority (Aresep) is the State-owned agency in charge of setting the price of public services and products.

The Costa Rica Oil Company (Recope) is the State-owned company in charge of importing, distributing and selling fuels in the country.
