The
Evolution Free Zone, located in Grecia
Canton, Alajuela Province,
was inaugurated on Tuesday, announced CODE
Development Group, the firm in charge of
building the new business park.
According
to the firm with an
investment of more than $200 million, the
business park will host six international
companies as part of the country's Foreign
Direct Investment (FDI) strategy to create
about 20,000 jobs.
The
trade zone opened its doors with top Life
Sciences companies, such as Johnson &
Johnson MedTech, AVNA, Inari Medical,
Accudyn Products Inc., Intricon
Corporation and Trelleborg Healthcare
& Medical.
"These international firms will make this free trade zone a development pole that will enhance the value chains and competitiveness of the communities of Alajuela, San Ramón, Grecia, Atenas, Naranjo, Palmares, Poás, Zarcero and Valverde Vega, " said the company in its statement.
It is
estimated
that 80% of the job profiles at the
business park will be composed of
manufacturing operators and technicians.
The main requirements include having
completed at least the ninth year of high
school education and having a basic
knowledge of English.
Operator
skills will focus on sophisticated
manufacturing processes. Technical careers
in quality, manufacturing, metal mechanics
and precision mechanics are desirable for
technical positions. Those interested in
applying for a job vacancy should contact
the business park by emailing
infoevolutionfz@code-cr.com.
Even
though new international companies are
creating jobs in Costa Rica, the
unemployment rate is 6.7%, according to
the National Employment Survey. Data
recorded from June to August shows more
than 162,000 people without registered
jobs. Of these, 87,000 are men, making up
53% of the unemployed people in the
country.
Costa
Rica's Foreign
Direct Investment
(FDI) strategy goal
is to
attract more international companies' investment. This
week, the California,
U.S.-headquartered, Applied Materials,
one of the top companies specializing in
semiconductor manufacturing announced
the opening of its operations in Heredia
Province. --------------- What have you heard about expats seeking job opportunities in Costa Rica? We would like to know your thoughts on this story. Send your comments to news@amcostarica.com
