Costa Rica ranks at 76 of the Global Cybersecurity Index 2020 published by the International Telecommunications Union, ITU.
The Switzerland-based ITU is a United Nations specialized agency for information and communication technologies, ICTs.
The index measures the level of commitment of each country to the Global Cybersecurity Agenda, to highlight potential areas for improvement and promote cybersecurity at the forefront of national plans such as legal measures, technical measures, organizational measures, capacity building and cooperation.
According to the Ministry of Technology, Costa Rica is showing progress in the world ranking from position 115 that the country had in the previous report.
In the American continent, Costa Rica ranks in the top 10 of the most cyber-safe countries, in eighth place winning 67.47 points out of 100. The country improved from last year’s report where Costa Rica ranked at number 18.
Cybersecurity is becoming increasingly important in a world where the Internet has become the epicenter, not only of global business but also of everyday life. Society depends on social networks, telecommuting, digital services, among others.
According to the index in the American continent, the United States ranks number 1 with an overall score of 100 points, followed by Canada in second place scoring 97.67 points. Ecuador falls in last place for cybersecurity at 26.3 points.
