The Public Services Regulatory Authority (Aresep) has authorized a modification in fuel prices. Aresep is the public organization in charge of setting the price of fuel requested by the Costa Rica Oil Company (Recope). In the case of gasoline international market prices, were decreasing throughout the purchase period as U.S. oil stocks increased by 2 billion barrels, according to Recope, the state-owned company in charge of importing, distributing, and selling fuels in the country. In terms of diesel price hikes, the continuous conflict between Israel and Lebanon drove up the price of this fuel in the international market at the time Costa Rica was negotiating its import, Recope added.
The new prices will be as follows:
Plus 91 gasoline (known as regular) decreased from ₡708 to ₡686 colones per liter. It costs approximately $1.34.
Diesel
increased
from ₡601 to ₡619 colones per liter.
The
revised price is around $1.19.
Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), for use in heating appliances, cooking and vehicles, increased from ₡7,199 colones to ₡7,511 colones per 25-pound gas cylinder, about $14.44.
The
new prices become effective on Friday,
August 8, after being published in the
official government publication La Gaceta.
