The big winner of the Gordo Navideño $16 million jackpot or Christmas Big Lottery, was number 43 with the serial 975, announced the Social Protection Board (JPS).



The lottery draw was held on Sunday and aired by the State-owned channel 13.



The lottery tickets printed by the JPS were five identical sets of 40 tickets apiece. Each set is referred to as an "entero," and one fraction or ticket of that set is known as a "pedacito." 



If the player who purchased the five sets with the serial 975 and number 43 is the winner of the $16 million jackpot. The jackpot was about $3.2 million per one set or approximately $80,000 per one ticket.



All winners must have the number 43 and the 975 series to win this jackpot.



The big lottery included a second prize of $1.6 million per set or about $8,000 per ticket with the winning number 15 serial number 152.



The third prize is about $800,000 per set or about $4,000 per ticket with the winning number 02 serial number 509.







 


There were more than 150 extra prizes, ranging from $50 to $300 per ticket. Also matching with the corresponding number and serial on those additional prizes.



The list of numbers and serial numbers for those additional prizes was released on the JPS website.



The winning tickets were sold around the country, JPS said in its statement.



All prizes will be paid immediately and without taxes at the lottery headquarters in downtown San José or any Banco de Costa Rica branch in the country.



Winners who purchase their tickets online will have their prizes paid into their registered bank account within 24 hours.



According to the JPS, the proceeds from the lottery sales will be used to fund grants to charitable organizations, as well as to pay commissions to lottery dealers.



The Social Protection Board (JPS), is the state-owned organization responsible for the lottery in Costa Rica.
