The Ministry of
Culture is hosting tonight the “Back to Our
Roots” free concert as part of the
celebrations for the country's
Afro-descendants.
The performance
aims to celebrate the rich roots of
Afro-Costa Rican culture performing Limón's Township
Band under the direction of Ana Pamela
Goyenaga González. The show will also
feature the Kawe Calypso band and the
Afro-Costa Rican dance group Dancestra.
The concert will include a screening of the documentary “Back to Our Roots,” produced by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). This film spotlights the struggles and achievements of Afro-descendant people in Costa Rica and globally, using calypso music to unite and strengthen cultural identity.
The free
event will be
held on
Wednesday,
August 21, at
7 p.m. at the
Alberto Cañas
Theater located in
the Antigua
Aduana Event
Center in
downtown San
