The Social Protection Board the "Gordo Navideño” (Big Christmas) lottery will give about a $16 million jackpot plus many extra prizes on Sunday, December 15, 2024.

The way to win this lottery is to have the correct two-digit number from 0 to 99 and the correct three-digit series, from 0 to 999.

The lottery tickets printed by the Board are five identical sets, with 40 tickets each, for every combination of numbers and series.

Each set is called an "entero” and costs about $155. If the player pays $770 to buy the five sets and is lucky enough to hit the number and series, will be the winner of the $16 million jackpot.

For those who prefer to buy one ticket, known as "pedacito” (little piece). The ticket costs just $3,85, and the first prize winner will get about $80,000.

Besides the $16 million jackpot, there is a second grand prize of over $1.6 million and the third grand prize of over $800,000.

In addition, there are 150 more prizes, ranging from $50 to $300 per “pedacito.” Also matching with the number and serial on those extra prizes.

The game includes an extra lottery draw for one additional jackpot called "acumulado" or prize pool. This is an additional game with extra prizes ranging from $3,000 to the big current amount of $3 million. One of those "acumulado" prizes will be distributed among the winners with a new combination of series and numbers.

Any person living in Costa Rica, regardless of their nationality, resident or tourist status, can purchase the printed lottery.

All prizes will be paid immediately and without taxes at the lottery headquarters in downtown San José or any Banco de Costa Rica branch in the country.

Also for residents, there is an online lottery on the board webpage. The site allows for an unlimited amount of number purchases. All winnings are deposited within 24 hours into the registered bank account.

Authorities recommend buying the lottery only in the official booths to avoid price speculation or lottery counterfeiting.

According to the Board, the lottery revenues will be utilized to finance contribution programs for other social service organizations, as well as to pay lottery dealers' fees.

The lottery draw will take place on Sunday, December 15, at 7 p.m. The game will be televised by the State-owned channel 13 and will be live-streaming on the board's YouTube channel.

The Social Protection Board (JPS), is the state-owned organization responsible for the lottery in Costa Rica.
