Happy 248th birthday, America!

The celebration of the United States' independence from England is one of the most anticipated days of the year when expats reconnect with friends living in Costa Rica.

Despite the American Colony Committee's announcement that they would no longer be able to host a traditional Fourth of July Picnic, expatriates who wish to celebrate the holiday may choose from the Independence Day parties listed below.

Republicans Abroad Costa Rica welcomes both supporters and members of other political parties to its Independence Party at Hamburguesia restaurant, located in the Avenida Escazu Shopping Center in San José. Burgers, fries, steak, and beverages are all available on the American menu. The party starts at noon.

Democrats Abroad Costa Rica invites sympathizers and members from different political parties to their Independence Day celebration at El Be Beach Club in Tamarindo Beach, Guanacaste. The American menu includes burgers, hotdogs, fries, and drinks available for purchase. The event begins at 11 a.m.

Los Suenos Marriott Ocean & Golf Resort in Herradura Beach offers an Independence Day Dinner with American cuisine and cocktails. The celebration begins with a DJ show set at 6 p.m.

Zi Lounge Restaurant offers an American Independence party at Coco Beach, Guanacaste. Expats and their friends may have lunch or supper from an American food, with drink deals available throughout the day. DJ Metra's music starts at 5 p.m. The evening concludes at 9 p.m. with a widely anticipated fireworks display.

Beginning at midday, the Marriott Hotel in Belen Canton, Heredia Province, will host the Independence Power Lunch. American food menu includes BBQ, hamburgers, salads, desserts, and drinks.

Hemingway's Beachfront Restaurant, located at the Costa Rica Sailing Center in Potrero Beach, Guanacaste, is hosting a "4th of July Party" at noon, with an American food menu, live music and a fireworks display.

The Rolling Thunder Saloon at Jaco Beach, Puntarenas, hosts a 4th of July Bash with American cuisine and drinks. Beginning at noon, the party will feature a live music show.

Los Sueños Marina at Herradura Beach, Puntarenas Province, is offering a party with lunch and dinner American food menu. At the Beach Club, the party will begin at 4:30 p.m. with a BBQ specialties menu and cocktails. The festival continues with a concert by the Los Mojados Band. The gathering concludes with a fireworks show.
