The Costa Rican Soccer Federation's Disciplinary Tribunal punished Canadian professional soccer player Manjrekar James (31) for headbutting an opponent during a match at the Alejandro Morera-Soto stadium in Alajuela Province.

James was dismissed from the game between Liga Deportiva Alajuelense and Club Sport Herediano after he headbutted the opponent player Andy Rojas, during a match held on Tuesday, Nov. 19.

According to the Tribunal, James, a center-back for the professional soccer team Liga Deportiva Alajuelse, was disqualified from playing in the next four games.

The Canadian player was suspended for three games and fined ₡225,000  or about $450 due to aggressive behavior after headbutting an opponent player's abdomen.

In addition, he got an extra match suspension as punishment for delaying the beginning of the game by refusing to leave the field after the referee dismissed him. This punishment is coupled with another fine of ₡100,000, approximately $200.

In short, James will have to pay a $650 fine and cannot participate in the following four games.

Manjrekar James was born in Dominica and became a Canadian citizen in his teens. From 2015 until 2020, he was a defender player for the Canadian men's national soccer team.

In 2023, he was an active player for the Forge Football Club, a Canadian professional soccer team from Hamilton, Ontario. The team participates in the Canadian Premier League.

In January, 2024 James joined the Liga Deportiva Alajuelense team in Costa Rica.
