The University of Costa Rica (UCR) offers a new course "Taylor Swift y la literatura escrita por mujeres", or Taylor Swift and female-authored literature, which is inspired by the American singer-songwriter through its Faculty of General Studies.
The
San José-based university said the program
aims to analyze the cultural impact of Swift’s music
and her role as a modern popular culture
icon.
“Taylor
Swift is a cultural phenomenon and a global
figure who promotes female empowerment,” the
Faculty stated in a release.
The
course was
developed by
professors Diana Alpízar and Mariela Romero,
experts in Critical Reading of Language and
Literature. It explores themes of women’s
empowerment and resistance to patriarchal
systems.
According to CNN’s report, “How Taylor Swift became the Trojan horse of academia,” many U.S. universities such as Harvard, the University of Texas, Stanford, Arizona State University, the University of Florida, and UC Berkeley, have also introduced courses focused on Swift’s work and cultural influence.
Taylor Swift
debuted as a country artist
in 2006. Her Eras Tour (2023–2024) is
reportedly the highest-grossing tour in
history.
