Agents from the Judicial Investigation Organization (OIJ) are on the hunt to identify those responsible for the theft of four luxury vehicles, jewelry among other assets, worth more than $325,000 that were being held at the Costa Rica Institute on Drugs (ICD) warehouses located in Uruca Canton, San José.

The ICD's director, Fernando Ramírez, stated on local media that the case may was an inside job. This suggests that someone with access to the warehouses may have assisted the gang in entering the premises where the luxury vehicles and other pricey assets were being held.

The robbery seemed like an inside job because there was no evidence of forced entry.

According to Ramírez, the burglars entered through the facility's emergency door, which was not completely closed.

The warehouse access door's lock was wrapped in sticky tape, making it impossible to fully close. The door could be easily unlocked allowing the intruders to enter without forcing the entry.

According to Ministry of Public Security report, on Sunday at 7 p.m., at least ten people entered the institute's warehouse, which is responsible for holding assets seized in drug trafficking and criminal cases.

The gang tied the hands of the only security officer there. He was unable to free himself until 9:30 p.m., when he called 911 to report the incident.

The stolen assets included a black BMW X6 car, a white BMW model 745 car, BMW motorcycle, Honda motorcycle, bicycles, television screens, drones, cameras, and a safe containing jewels, among others items.

As of Tuesday, OIJ agents have already recovered the black BMW X6 car. The automobile was found in a garage on private property in Heredia Province. Because the investigation is still ongoing, the information remains classified.

Authorities ask that people report any suspected stolen vehicles to the ten-digit confidential number 800-8000-645 or fast line 11-76, where multilingual agents may take calls in English or Spanish.

The Costa Rica Institute on Drugs (ICD), which reports to The Ministry of Public Security (MSP), coordinates policies and strategies against drug trafficking and money laundering.

The Ministry of Public Security (MSP) is the government agency in charge of ensuring citizen security, preserving public order, forming police units, and coordinating anti-crime initiatives.
