Professionals can obtain a
scholarship to study in the U.S.

By the A.M. Costa Rica staff

The U.S. Embassy opens applications for the Hubert H. Humphrey Scholarships Program.

According to the embassy, this program is specifically for professionals to take postgraduate courses in the U.S., for an academic year. The purpose is to complement them with professional practice in a U.S. institution homologous to theirs in Costa Rica.

Mid-career professionals are encouraged to apply. They are looking for candidates with leadership skills, in charge of decision making and policy definition in their companies or organization. Candidates must obtain a permit from the company they work for to be absent for the scholarship period.

The program will develop a study in the areas of sustainable development focused on strengthening of democratic institutions, administration education, planning, educational policies, administration of higher education, the teaching of English as a foreign language and public health.

Interested applicants must be professional university graduates, and have at least five years of professional experience in their field.

They must have documentation that proves their promotion history in their profession and command of the written and oral English language.

Those interested should fill out an online preliminary form.

The Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program brings 200 outstanding mid-career professionals from countries in states of development or transition to the United States for engagement in non-degree studies and related professional experiences at select American universities.

Established in 1978, the program now has a network of over 4,200 alumni in 157 countries around the world.

As a non-degree program, the Fellowship offers valuable opportunities for professional development through selected university courses, attending conferences, networking, and practical work experiences.

During the year, fellows pursue both their individual program goals and work closely with their Humphrey colleagues in workshops and seminars.

The Humphrey Fellowship Program is for experienced professionals interested in strengthening their leadership skills through a mutual exchange of knowledge and understanding about issues of common concern in the U.S. and fellows’ home countries.

The preliminary application deadline is July 15. For more information, those interested can email exchangessanjose@state.gov.
