License plate restrictions will not apply
during half-year holidays

The Directory of Transit announced that between the 1st and 12th of July the license plate restriction will not be applied in San José due to the half-year school vacation.
This rule was implemented to reduce the number of cars in the capital. It will be suspended for these two weeks due to the significant reduction in the number of the cars in the capital.
Marín Sandí, Director of the Traffic Police, said that since both public and private schools are on vacations, the reduction in traffic will be significant. "Additionally, many parents take advantage of their children's school break to leave the Central Valley with the family," said Marin.
Another reason for not applying the restriction is to allow Transit officials to focus on control of people traveling on to the beaches or the countryside.
The plate restriction will be back in effect as of Monday, July 15. Under normal conditions, the plate number restriction is applied in San José Monday through Friday, from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. The fine for disrespecting this measure is about $40.
