Agents of the Judicial Investigation Organization of the station of Liberia*, in Guanacaste, investigated an SUV in which someone was apparently carrying marijuana plants, as well as implements that could be related to a hydroponic marijuana laboratory.
According to the police report, at 2:30 a.m., on Tuesday, there was a police alert and a roadblock near the Colorado town of Liberia.
The driver of an SUV had been arrested at the checkpoint for railing to follow the orders of parking officers on the side of the road. The driver also accelerated to try to evade the police.
An alert was sounded and the car was finally found on an abandoned property.
"When the agents arrived at the site, they conducted the inspection and found 7 bags containing marijuana plants, a 12-gauge shotgun with four ammunition, 8 reflectors, 7 lamps, and batteries, among other important evidence for the investigation," said the police in their report.
The police issued an alert because it was suspected that there was another car that was traveling behind the SUV and it was possible that the driver was also linked to the case.
After a second roadblock was ordered, the police found the wanted vehicle near the town of Esparza*. They arrested Mata Garcia age 43, Castro Oviedo age 23, and Montes Rodriguez age 22.
The three men were arrested on suspicion of being linked to the transport of marijuana from the first car, and taken to the cells of the Public Ministry where they were interviewed by the agents and are now waiting for a judge to establish the pre-trial detention.
According to the police, marijuana, weapons, and two vehicles were confiscated and will be used as part of the investigation.
