Police officers of the station of Alajuelita* in San José
responded to an emergency call about domestic
violence.
On arrival at the scene the officers found a
suspect named Solera in a car.
The police then detained a second suspect, a man
named Castillo who was leaving the victim’s house.
Officers then entered the house of the victim. A
woman's name was not listed in the police report.
When the officials searched the house, they found
a firearm in a trash can. Marijuana and cocaine
were found in the suspect’s car.
When the officers asked the victim to sign the
police report and make a complaint about the
attack, the woman refused.
The policemen confiscated the weapon and the
drugs. They released both suspects, because there
was no formal complaint against them.
However, after the officers left the area to
continue patrolling the two men from the previous
incident came to the officers to ask for the gun
back.
"They offered ¢400,000 colones (about $685) as
payment for return of the weapon," said the police
in their report.
The officers again detained the two men now
suspects of attempted bribery and took them to the
cells of the Prosecutor's Office in the town of Hatillo*.
"The offense of bribery applies to anyone who
offers or promises a public official an improper
gift or advantage. The sanction is from two to six
years in prison," said the Security Ministry in
its statement.
The two men were interviewed by agents of the
Public Prosecutor's Office and must remain in
cells until a judge orders the pre-trial measures
against them.
