Agents of the Judicial Investigation
Organization of the delegation of the town
of Corredores, in Ciudad-Neily*, in a
coordinated operation with the border
police, detained a man surnamed Lopez, age
52, for having grown more than a thousand
plants of marijuana on his property.
The police report, that, after an
investigation that lasted more than a month,
they took a final five hour hike through a
mountain forest, to reach the site where the
marijuana was being cultivated.
"In the operation, we seized marijuana
plants and tools that were apparently used
in the fields," said police in its report.
The plants were destroyed by the police and
the suspect was sent to the cells of the
Public Ministry where he must wait until a
judge orders pre-trial measures against him.

Organization said the investigation
continues in the area since they think that
more people could have been involved in this
case.
In relation to the most recent police
actions to stop marijuana traffic, as A.M.
Costa Rica reported on April 27, the
representatives of the Alajuela municipality
canceled an event in favor of the use of
medical marijuana known as 'The 2019 Cup',
that was to be held in the town Garita in Alajuela*.
Daniel Calderon, police director, said the
owners of the property where the event was
held could have lost the right to rent their
property for future events because the
Municipality of Alajuela had not given
permission for the marijuana event to be
held.
"In teamwork with city officials, we went to
the place and verified that this place was
special to organize events, and that
particular event was canceled by police. The
municipal representatives could even cancel
the patent credential to rent the place, "
said Calderon.
Regarding people detained or seized
marijuana, Calderon reported that "several
people were reviewed outside the place and
they made few seizures of marijuana."
In the beginning, the event was scheduled to
be in the town of Puerto Viejo* in
Limón. However, the police believe that the
organizers moved it to La Garita town in an
attempt to avoid the authorities. "When they
realized that this event was filtered to the
press, they changed the place several times.
Finally, it was in Garita town," said
Calderon.
According to the police report, there were
no people detained in the area.
