The Red Cross of Costa Rica has started a
campaign called Todos Somos Cruz Roja
(everybody is part of Red Cross), to raise
funds to cover the organization’s expenses.
The ad campaign features metal chain
containers that will be placed in the supermarkets of the AM-PM and Fresh
Market until June 30.
The goal of this campaign is to generate
resources to cover the aid services provided
by the Red Cross.
"This is a campaign that will help to
generate resources which will cover the
operations of the Red Cross," said Mirna
Picado, representative of the Red Cross.
"The 26 authorized stores, will be key to
have access to more people give a
contribution for the benefit of the Red
Cross and the thousands of people who we
help."
The containers are in 26 stores AM-PM and
Fresh Market located in San José, Heredia,
and Alajuela.
Revenue to support the Red Cross comes from:
- Emission stamps of the Costa Rican Red
Cross
- Taxes on Cigarettes and Liquors
- 5 percent of the cost of the infractions
of traffic laws
- 6 percent of the lottery prizes not
collected.
- A percentage of the charge on cell phones
The Red Cross reports that
it responds to 1,095 emergencies per
month. The majority are related to
cardiac problems, diabetics,
collisions, respiratory problems,
and drug abuse.
During 2018, were attended 13,141 emergencies and were traveled 119,392 kilometers.
