Agents of the Judicial Investigation
Organization of the Osa Station, in the
southern zone of the country, detained two
men, 56 and 27 years of age, as suspects of
Violation of the Psychotropic Law and Animal
Welfare Law.
According to the police report, the arrest
was made after police raided a house located
in the town of Uvita* in Puntarenas,
where apparently there were a large number
of addicts buying drugs (specifically
cocaine tips) and betting on cockfights.
In addition to the arrest of the two men,
the police confiscated ¢32 million colones
(about $53,481), and more than 100 roosters.
There were cages and a structure where the
cockfighting games happened at the house of
the suspects.
The officers of the National Animal Health
Service took the animals and will conduct
the appropriate medical tests. This report
will also be included in the investigation.
The two men, whose identities were not
published, were taken to the cells of the
Public Ministry, where they were interviewed
by the agents of the Judicial Investigation
Organization. The suspects must wait for a
judge to dictate the pre-trial measures
against them.
