The Ministry of Public Works announced the
suspension of repair work on road between Cañas* and Limonal*, as well as on
highway #32 between Tibas* and Heredia* due to the increase
of travelers during Holy Week.
The work on this highway has a cost of $89.8
million, financed with a loan from the
Inter-American Development Bank.
The suspensions of these repairs were decided on
so that tourists traveling from San José to the
coasts of Guanacaste* and Limón* have a faster travel
time.
Between Cañas and Limonal, there are 20 kilometers
or new work where trees are cut, and there are
earthworks, and excavations.
The work will expand the road from two to four
lanes, with overpasses in communities that
register high traffic volumes.
Other upcoming arrangements on this route,
announced by the Ministry, would be the
construction of acceleration and deceleration
lanes, dividing barriers, pedestrian bridges, bus
bays, sidewalks, and terrestrial and aerial
wildlife passes.

Also under repair is route #32 known as Braulio Carrillo* highway.
According to the Ministry, the work that is being
done is the application of thermoplastic paint.
This is a kind of resin could reach a useful life
of about two years, taking into account the
climatic conditions of extreme humidity in the
area.
The paint will be applied on the section of the
road between the bridge over the river Virilla and
the bridge over the river Sucio. The cost of
repairs on route #32 is ¢7.6 billion colones
(about $12,693,140)
Due to the suspension of the work on these routes,
the Road Safety Officials call on the drivers to
increase the precautionary measures when they pass
through the roads under construction.
