Judicial agents arrest 24 people
suspected of drug trafficking

Agents of the narcotics section of Judicial
Investigation Agency conducted 23 raids early
Wednesday and arrested 19 men and five woman
suspected of national drug trafficking. Some may
have been involved in the murder of a woman
surnamed Gómez, 19 years old, which occurred in
May 2018.
The Public Prosecutor's Office, said "the gang
members had different functions, such as storing,
dosing, distributing and selling drugs."
"The group is also linked to the murder of a woman
with surnames Gómez Vásquez, which occurred
between May 13 and 15, 2018, after apparently
depriving her of her freedom, transferring her to
the Ciudadela 25 de Julio sector in Hatillo, where
she would have been shot and, even burned alive."
said the prosecutor in his statement.
The raids were carried out in the communities of
Curridabat, Tres Ríos, Cartago, Desamparados,
Puntarenas, Naranjo and the La Reforma Prison in
San Rafael de Alajuela.
The agents’ report that through the investigation
they developed during the year, they determined
that this gang distributed and had centers selling
crack cocaine, cocaine, and marijuana, in
different sectors of San José and Naranjo in the
province of Alajuela.
"During the operation, more than ¢4 million
colones (about $6,671) were seized, more than a
thousand dollars, 5 pistol-type firearms, 9 and
38-millimeter ammunition for firearms, cocaine,
ketamine and 7 bags containing an approximate to
10 thousand crack stones," said the police report.

According to
the investigation, this gang was apparently led by
a Costa Rican man surnamed Martínez-Fajardo, known
as Pollo (chicken), who is being held in a jail in
Nicaragua for drug trafficking.
It is presumed that his two brothers and another
man, known as Dwarf received the orders of
Martinez-Fajardo to continue with the business of
selling drugs.
The operation involved more than 300 specialists,
among them, investigators, prosecutors, judges,
and police officers.
The detainees are in the cells of the Public
Prosecutor's Office, where they were interviewed
by the agents of the Judicial Investigation
Organization.
It is expected that a judge will dictate the
pre-trial measures against the suspects in the
next few hours.
