Police officers, in coordination with agents of
the Judicial Investigation Organization of Liberia* in the province of
Guanacaste, detained a Costa Rican man surnamed
Solis-Millet, 41 years old, suspected of stealing
a credit card from a German tourist.
Police report that Solis-Millet was arrested at
his home in the community of Barrio Corazon de
Jesus in Liberia. He has a criminal record for
previous arrests for violent robbery, domestic
violence against a woman and sexual abuse against
a minor.
The suspect apparently used his physical
appearance and his knowledge of English to pretend
to be an American tourist and easily entered
hotels in the area.
The case being investigated occurred on October 9,
2018, around 10 p.m., when the suspect pretended
to be a tourist and a guest at a hotel in
Guanacaste. "He pretended to be a tourist and also
[that] he only spoke in the English language,"
said the judicial investigation organization in
its report.
At some point, the suspect managed to slip past
the hotel staff front desk and enter one of the
rooms where he stole a bag from a German tourist.
In the bag was the victim credit card which he
then used to spend approximately ¢500 thousand
colones (about $829). Among the purchases made
with that card were a flat screen TV, some
furniture and gas for his car.
In the raid, the police also seized more items
that apparently were purchased with the card, such
as a baby's crib, and a mattress, among other
objects.
The suspect was sent to the cells of the Public
Ministry, where he was interviewed by the agents
of the judicial investigation organization.

Solis-Millet has a
criminal record for previous arrests for violent

Solis-Millet must wait for a judge to dictate the
pre-trial measures against him.
Although many tourists decide not to make
complaints about robberies because they will only
stay a few days in the country, police officers
call on tourists to make complaints of robbery to
the confidential number: 800-800-0645 or 9-1-1.
