Agents of the Judicial Investigation Agency of the
Delegation of Heredia found 14 of the 17 new cars
which were stolen from a fiscal warehouse in the Lagunilla sector of Heredia*
early Friday.
According to the investigation, on Friday night a
gang of at least 17 members arrived at a warehouse
in Heredia and managed to steal 17 cars.
One of the members of the gang, a 16-year-old
woman, whose identification was not published, was
detained in the warehouse while she tried to steal
one of the cars. The young woman was arrested and
taken to the Public Ministry.
Another car was recovered near the Pan-American highway* where
the robber had apparently crashed the car and then
fled police.
The police report that "a confidential call was
received regarding the location of the vehicles.
At 1:00 a.m. on Saturday, 11 vehicles were found
on a property in the community of Desamparados* in the
province of Alajuela."
Another vehicle was then found on the public
highway on Saturday night in the community of Purral* in San José.
Police are continuing their search for the
remainder of the stolen cars.
Statistics of the Confidential Information Center
of the Judicial Investigation Organization, which
is the organization in charge of answering the
calls to the police line number 800--8000-6445,
more than 6,325 confidential calls were received
in one year, an average of about 500 calls a
month.
The call line provides service through the country
between 7:30 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. seven days a
week.

The majority of reports are related to drug
trafficking, with a total of 3,847 calls or 61
percent.
In second place are reports related to robberies,
with a total of 669 cases, or 11 percent.
The third place is calls related to vehicle theft,
with 388 reports, or 6 percent.
