The government received a ‘confirmation of interest’ from the United Arab Emirates related to an investment proposal in the field of hospital infrastructure.
The information, said the government, was revealed after meetings were held in Dubai by Vice President Epsy Campbell and her delegation.
Regarding possible investment, Vice President Campbell said, "I am very pleased with the response and political support regarding the financial investment and health support that the UAE values for Costa Rica. Our participation in the World Summit of Governments was a possibility to reaffirm the diplomatic relations between both countries and the strategic alliance we have built together."
Pilar Garrido, Minister of Planning, and part of the delegation to the UAE, said that in the coming weeks a mission from the United Arab Emirates would arrive in Costa Rica to define the possibilities for financial investment.
"It has been an extremely profitable work tour, in which the government of the United Arab Emirates has shown interest in supporting Costa Rica in its process of stabilizing public finances and economic reactivation, particularly through financial investment," said Garrido.
Minister Garrido added that private sector representatives from the UAE will enter into talks with the government to establish public-private partnerships in port infrastructure.
The Costa Rican delegation also held meetings with the Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Emir of Dubai, Sheik Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and with the Minister of Presidential Affairs and President of the Abu Dhabi Development Fund, Sheik Mansour bin Zayed Al-Nahyan.
Vice President Campbell and her delegation were invited by the government of the United Arab Emirates to attend the VII World Summit of Governments.

The diplomatic headquarters of the United Arab Emirates focuses on cooperation, identifying potential investments and promoting trade in both tracks (import and export).
Costa Rica and the United Arab Emirates signed diplomatic relations in 2010. Over the last two years, and especially after the February 2016 visit of Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, the two government’s ties were strengthened.
The ministry reports that the governments signed eleven international agreements in that period, among them an investment promotion and protection agreement, and an air transport agreement.
In addition, the United Arab Emirates contributed a non-refundable 10 million dollars to rebuild the water mains of the northern part of the country after they were damaged by Hurricane Otto.
