Giselle Cruz is the new minister of Education By the A.M. Costa Rica staff President Carlos Alvarado announced that Giselle Cruz has been named the new minister of Education after the controversial resignation of the former minister Edgar Mora. According to the Ministry of Education, Cruz began her professional career in the classroom as a school teacher and was head of the Educational Evaluation Department, among other positions within the ministry. Cruz holds a bachelor's degree in education for the I and II cycles, a master's degree in educational evaluation and a master's degree in educational administration. As A.M. Costa Rica reported, Cruz temporarily replaced Mora, who resigned after a meeting of the Governing Council in the Presidential House in Zapote. Resignation of Mora was one of the demands made by unions and students as a condition of finishing their strike. "Mr. President, now with goodwill and immense respect, I give you back the position designated as minister of Education," said Mora on his resignation. After the resignation of Mora, members of the union of employees of the Ministry of Education celebrated in the streets in front of the ministry building. According to union leaders, the former minister did not develop enough actions to solve the infrastructure problems in schools as well as open negotiations with the employees of the ministry. "We celebrate that the minister has resigned." Now we have a minister who wants to talk to us, "said Melida Cedeñ, leader of the school teacher union, known as APSE. For more than a week, some students from the public high schools were protesting and requested the resignation of Mora, who according to the students, affected their performance. According to the ministry's report, only 2 percent of the country's schools participated in the protest. ------------------------------ What should the new minister do to reconcile with the unions and students and prevent them from returning to strike?
