Authorities announce improvements in infrastructure in Tamarindo By
the A.M. Costa Rica staff
Authorities of the Chamber of Commerce of Tamarindo*, Guanacaste and the Institute of Tourism, and Ministry of Tourism, announced three projects in infrastructure, tourism promotion, and wastewater treatment. "As of today, there is a before and after in Tamarindo thanks to the support of the Costa Rican Tourism Institute," said Hernan Imhoff, president of the Chamber of Commerce and Tourism of Tamarindo. The Minister of Tourism, María Amalia Revelo, announced that the police building will be built in 2020. "We have the land and the resources," he said. According to Revelo, the Tourism Institute and the Ministry of Culture will work to promote Tamarindo as a tourist destination. "We are interested in integrating the cultural experiences of the region, in addition to the sun, the beach and surfing," he said. Sylvie Durán Salvatierra, Minister of Culture, added "it is of great importance to rescue the cultural link between Tamarindo, Santa Cruz, and Nicoya, to strengthen an identity between these cantons during the next five years." The Ministry says that Santa Cruz can be considered a "folkloric city of Costa Rica". In Nicoya, there is a mixture of indigenous and Catholic tradition. In both towns, there were eight places that were declared architectural heritage buildings, such as the church of San Blas de Nicoya, which is from the time of the colonization of the country. In the case of the town of Tamarindo, the main attraction is as a destination for tourists. The town has more than 108 hotels, representing 6.3 percent of the total of all accommodation places in the country. According to the statistics of the Ministry, from 2015 to 2017, more than 95,000 tourists stayed in Tamarindo. The National Tourism Plan, a document prepared by the Costa Rican Tourism Institute, is to promote 32 villages for tourism. ------------------ Is any place in your community that could also be included in the national tourism plan?
