The judge of the criminal court of Puntarenas* sentenced a Costa Rican man, surnamed Ávila, age 40, to six months of pre-trial imprisonment as a money laundering suspect. He was apparently hiding $560,720 in cash in his car. The police report that officers received notice from an informer about a man traveling from Guanacaste* to Puntarenas*, with drugs and money hidden in his car. The agents of the Judicial Investigation Organization with the help of the police, established a roadblock on the Barranca highway, stopped vehicles and found the car where the suspect had hidden $560,720 in cash inside compartments of the car, said the report. The police detained Áviles and took him to the cells of the Public Ministry, where he was interviewed by agents and later sentenced to six months in prison as a precautionary pre-trial measure. The money was seized by the police and is part of the proof in the case. "After a preliminary test, made by the K-9 Unit, it was detected that the money would be contaminated by drug remains," said the court report. ---------------- Did you
