Kantar Worldpanel and Kantar Consulting conducted an analysis of how Brexit could affect the food industry and buyers in the United Kingdom. This technical document explores the different measures that stores and suppliers are taking to prepare for the Brexit. Across the food sector, the imminent impact on supply chains, product availability, prices, and buyers' sentiment is still unknown, depending largely on the form that the UK's final exit from the European Union will take. When analyzing the implications of Brexit in the UK product sector, the report's authors, Fraser McKevitt, Director of Sales and Consumers at Kantar Worldpanel, and Ray Gaul, Senior Vice President of Research and Analysis at Kantar Consulting, said "the decision leaving the EU has affected consumers in different ways, but it is clear that the current uncertainty is already having a definitive impact on buying trends and behaviors." From a supplier's perspective, there is little doubt among traders, producers, and farmers that Brexit will cause a significant disruption in the UK food supply, including unharvested products and empty supermarket shelves. The uncertainty generated by the decision of the United Kingdom to separate from the EU has had its impact on expectations and consumption patterns in this market. "This study contains important information so that current national exporters and those who want to enter this market know about the possible impacts of Brexit on marketing channels and consumption," said Costa Rica's export promotion office in its statement. According to the organization, the European Union is the third region of importance for Costa Rica, where 20 percent of national exports are shipped in 2018. Specifically, the United Kingdom is positioned as the third most important destination in the region, and 88 percent exported from Costa Rica, are agricultural products.
