Air Canada to increase flights to Liberia airport
....

By the A.M. Costa Rica staff

Air Canada announced to its intention to increase its operations to the province of Guanacaste, bringing more tourists from the cities of Montreal and Toronto. The original plan was to keep the flights until this month however, the airline announced it will be continuing those fights until December. The plan was originally noted by A.M. Costa Rica on July 3, 2018.

Passengers will travel on an A321 Airbus for the Montreal-Liberia route on Tuesdays, from April 30 to October 22 which will increase to four weekly flights, on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays, from October 27 until December 17th.

"We continue to share positive news and strengthen the tourism from North America. We are proud to see the results of our efforts as part of the strategy of attracting airlines and increasing frequencies," said Maria Amalia Revelo, minister of Tourism.

She added that this is a tangible example of the confidence the airline has in Costa Rica and Guanacaste.

President Carlos Alvarado said that "the increase of air frequencies represents a great commitment for the country in continuing to provide quality service and a great opportunity to enhance tourism in the Guanacaste area."

According to data from the Costa Rican Tourism Board, the year 2018 registered the visit of more than 200,000 Canadians. Canada represented 7 percent of total arrivals to the country and 14 percent of arrivals from North America.

Additionally, the board said that 35 percent of Canadian tourists come from Toronto and Montreal, which supports Air Canada's decision to increase the frequency of the flights.

The Canadian tourist is interested in culture, relaxation, rest, exploration of nature, adventure activities, visiting beaches and surfing, said the institution on a press statement. The average stay is 14 nights spending more than $100 per day.

"Canada is the second country where we are most visited from. Increasing these frequencies fills us with optimism for the future, as it benefits the province and directly translates into more and better jobs for the tourism industry," said César Jaramillo, general manager of CORIPORT, the company in charge of the administration and operation of the Liberia airport.
