The Traffic Department will suspend the restriction of vehicles by plate number in San José, from Monday 15 to Friday, April 19. Under normal conditions, the driving restriction is established by plate number, in the area known as the Circumvallation Route*, and is applied from Monday to Friday, from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., starting with the plates that end in one or two Monday and ending on Friday with the plates that end with the number nine or zero. The fine for disrespecting the restriction is ¢22,859.95 (about $38). German Marín-Sandí, Director of the Traffic Police, said that "since the schools have holidays during the week, besides the majority of public employees and many employees of the private sector who have vacations during Holy Week the reduction of traffic is great." According to the transit police, by not applying the restriction, officers can focus on control operations for vacationers who go to the beaches or the countryside. Officials remind everyone that the restriction will be reactivated on Monday, April 22nd. With respect to control operations, for vacationers traveling to the coasts or to the countryside during the Easter break, transit officials will apply the reversibility rule on route #27*. |
The reversibility rule applies when transit officials regulate the direction of transit on route #27, between San José and the Pacific coast. The goal of the officers is to expedite the return of tourists on Sundays from the Pacific coast. The first Sunday of application of the rule is April 14, which is Palm Sunday. It commemorates Jesus' triumphal entry into Jerusalem, an event mentioned in each of the four canonical Gospels. The rule will apply from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. During this time, only vehicles traveling from the Pacific coast to San José can travel on Route #27. ------------- Have you driven on route #27 when the reversibility rule was in effect?
