Social Security confirmed that the female condom is already duly registered in the Official List of Medicines distributed to the insured or users, which allows women to have greater autonomy in their sexual and reproductive health. The condom is a transparent cover usually made of nitrile or polyurethane and has two plastic rings on each end. The side that is closed facilitates insertion into the vagina while the open side remains outside to cover the vulva. This will prevent the spread of sexually transmitted diseases. Dr. Gloria Elena Terwes – Posada said that currently, 40 percent of the staff of the clinics in the country are trained in instructing the use of contraception. "The training is being done through videoconferences that allow more officials to be reached per session because, in the opinion of the doctor, it is important that the service provider learns about all aspects related to the manufacture and proper use of the condom so that it can teach the patient, " said Dr. Terwes. The condom application will not require a prescription and can be delivered by Social Security staff. Women who request the condom must present themselves at the clinic in their community, receive training on the correct use and commit to using it. About 20 female condoms will be delivered to each woman. Additionally, Dr. Terwes confirmed that an agreement is currently being made that would allow non-governmental organizations to distribute this condom. |
