The Ministry of Transport announces that access to route #32 will be closed between San Jose and Limón for demarcation work with thermoplastic paint on the asphalt. Closure will be from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., every day until April 12 for painting work on 7.5 km of the road. After the entire road is demarcated, folding posts will be installed to further improve the safety conditions on this route. "This will be the first time in the existence of this road, which crosses the Braulio Carrillo National Park and which connects the capital with the Caribbean, which uses this type of paint, which is a kind of resin and can achieve a life useful up to 5 years," the ministry said in its statement. Pablo Camacho, of the National Road Council, said drivers must take into account the work schedule on the road, although wet conditions or rain could cause jobs to start later or end before their scheduled time. As alternate routes, transit officials recommend traveling along the Vara Blanca, Chilamate-Vuelta de Kopper, or the route between Turrialba and Siquirres. Also, Ministry reported progress in the repair of the 2 km of road between Tibás and the Virilla bridge that cost ¢350 million colones (about $585,392) and is financed by the National Road Council. |
According to the specialists of the National Road Council, works starting today, Thursday, between 6:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. in both traffic lanes. Work on the road will be extended for at least 6 weeks, so it is expected that the improved road will be reopened in May. The Traffic Police will limit access to the closed road but for short periods of time, during the high traffic hours. "We clearly understand the effects that traffic generates, but these jobs seek a greater good, which is to have a road in optimal conditions and with new circulation dynamics that allow in a few weeks to move faster," said the ministry in its statement.
