Game Connection in San Francisco, is an international event which brings together game developers, publishers, service providers and others connected to the business of computer gaming with 3,000 participants from more than 60 countries in the Americas, Europe, and Asia. Eight Costa Rican companies participated with the aim of selling their services to international studios that subcontract different stages of game development, as well as finding distributors for national productions. This is the eighth time that Costa Rican companies have participated. The national companies participated with the support of Costa Rica's Foreign Trade Promoter (PROCOMER) are: Fair Play Labs, Sunna Entertainment, Tree Interactive, Headless Chicken Games, Canu Arts, Frame3 Studios, Green Lava Studios, and Tayassu Games. The Costa Rican offer was oriented toward two areas: 1-) Offering services such as video game design, character design and environments, modeling, 2D and 3D animation, programming, testing, special effects and music, and video games between platforms. 2-) The promotion and distribution of seven intellectual properties (video games) for platforms such as PC, mobile (iOS, Android), PS Vita and PlayStation 4. "The talent and creativity of Costa Ricans have been positioned in international markets, thanks to the efforts of companies like this one that participates in Game Connection this week," said Álvaro Piedra, Director of Exports of PROCOMER. "We hope that these companies will establish new businesses and distribution of their productions." Óscar Loría, CEO of Tayassu Games, said he had mixed feelings in his first participation in Game Connection. "We are very happy to meet dozens of international companies dedicated to this business, and at the same time a certain uncertainty because we always want to improve something." During the fair, the national companies were able to show their services and intellectual property in a stand of the essential country brand. |

According to the commercial promoter, in 2018, Costa Rica's exports of services totaled $6,739 million which represents a 5 percent growth in relation to the same period of 2017. The computer and telecommunications industry - to which the video game industry belongs - exported 6 percent more than the previous year.
