As A.M. Costa Rica reported last week, the staff of Ministry of Public Works are working on repairs of 32 kilometers of the highway # 32, located between the Virilla Bridge in Tibás* and the Sucio River near to Limón*.

The work is being carried out every day from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. and traffic officials are calling on drivers to increase safety measures when have to travel through the area. There are workers on the road and it will have to be closed periodically to allow the transit of machinery. This is causing traffic jams in the area.

Transit officials advise drivers to use alternative routes to reach the province of Limón. If drivers must use this route, they are cautioned to take the delays and traffic into account.

The officers also confirmed that during the entire period in which the repair working teams are on the road, the number of officers will be increased to ensure a safe transit through the area.

Authorities of the National Council of Roads, report that this highway will be painted with a kind of resin that withstands high temperatures and has a useful life of up to five years. Specialists consider the road rehabilitation and the painting will last for the next ten years.

The new asphalt is being marked with a solvent paint to guide users who will install the next layer of asphalt mix and mark the road with thermoplastic paint. This is an additive that will improve the quality of the road.

The Ministry of Public Works reports that repairs along 32 kilometers of highway will cost a total of ¢7,600 million colones (about $12,437,020). This investment is provided through Road and Bridge Conservation contracts.
