Mexicans held in pre-trial detention suspected of money laundering, illegal carrying of arms, among others crimes |

Costa Rica staff The Prosecutor’s office has requested pre-trial prison for three Mexican men suspected of entering the country illegally in an illegal plane, money laundering and other crimes. The Prosecutor's office in Pococí in Limon*, requested that the Criminal Court impose pre-trial prison for three Mexican men, surnamed Huerta-García, age 33, Lugo-Martínez, age 40, and Lares-García, age 26. The men were arrested for entering the country illegally, traveling in an illegal plane, suspicion of money laundering, and carrying illegal firearms, among other crimes. The prosecution reports that, on Monday night, police officers in Cariari in Limón*, received an alert call from the Air Surveillance Service regarding a small plane that was making an atypical landing in the area. With the help of the agents of the Air Surveillance Service, the police officers were guided to the exact place where the plane was landing. When they arrived at the site, they confirmed the existence of a private airstrip where they found a white Cessna 210 Centurion with false Mexican markings. The police managed to detain the three Mexicans who were still inside the plane. After the arrest, the officers coordinated with the Drug Control Police officers to carry out a search of the small plane. |

During the raid, agents confiscated the plane, a satellite phone, seven chargers, three GPS devices, 10 cell phones, an army night viewer, several notebooks (with notes of coordinates and telephones numbers), three firearms, ammunition, one dose of cocaine, 10,790 Mexican pesos (about $560) and $268,000.
