Municipal Band of Zarcero invited
to participate in Rose Parade 2020

The Municipal Band of Zarcero* confirmed that the band has been asked to participate in the Rose Parade in 2020. This would be the third time that a Costa Rican municipal band will be present in the traditional Rose Parade in Pasadena, California.

The band is made up of 250 members between 7 and 35 years old, 90 percent of them neighbors of Zarcero and the remaining 10 percent from San Carlos*, San Ramón*, Naranjo* and San José*.

Costa Rican band have participated in the Rose Parade twice. The Band of the Arts Conservatory of Cartago* traveled to Pasadena in 2005 and the Municipal Band of Acosta* participated in 2019.

Elesban Rodríguez, director and founder of the band from Zarcero said that the election of the band was greeted with great joy, emotion and commitment. The band was informed of the invitation to participate in October.

"We have a very strong commitment to represent the country and make all Costa Ricans proud. Like the Acosta Band, our main objective is to give a high level representation that highlights the talent, preparation and capacity of the musicians Costa Ricans," said Rodriguez

The parade route is 9.5 kilometers and the band will play a repertoire of 100 percent traditional or folkloric music.

"In the economic aspect it is an important investment because we have to cover the preparation of new uniforms, air tickets, transfers, lodging and food," explained Rodriguez.

The band opened the "$1 for the Municipal Band of Zarcero" campaign to pay for expenses. People who want to help should go to www.bmzarcero.com to see the donation options.

The band is made up of 250 members between

Throughout the year the band will also organize concerts, food sales, bingo, raffles and dances, with the mission of raising part of the ¢250 million colones ($412,925) they need to be present in Pasadena.

The band has also received an invitation to the Disney Parade from December 26, 2019 to January 4, 2020.

The band has made other international tours such as: The Giulianova International Festival, Italy 2018, Central American Parade, Los Angeles California 2017 and The Parade of Central American Bands, Panama 2013 and 2017
