Government invests more than $200,000
in improvements at the Port of Limón By the A.M. Costa Rica staff The government has agreed to invest $209,100 to make the passenger dock in Limón more attractive for those who arrive on cruise ships. Wednesday an agreement was signed between María Amalia Revelo, minister of Tourism, and Andrea Centeno, executive president of the Board of Directors of the Atlantic Port, for the improvements on the Caribbean coast. The agreement was signed at the tourism offices in La Uruca in San José. President Carlos Alvarado and other officials attended. "Limón is able to make tourists fall in love through their nature and the quality of their people," said Alvarado. "Our goal is to encourage the stay in the province and thereby reactivate not only the local and national economy and position the province as a destination that can compete with others, offering quality and a tourist experience based on the culture and tradition of the Limón people. " Gensler, the San Francisco-based international design and architecture specialist, will be in charge of the design of the port improvements, based on "showing the identity of the Limón town and achieving from the first impression the desire (of the tourist) to go out and get to know the Costa Rican Caribbean," said the institute in its statement. The main improvements will be at the boarding rooms, the craft market area and the passenger services area, among others. According to the institute, cruises are one of the main sources of income for the country. In the 2018-2019 season, 93 cruise ships arrived at Puerto Limón with 193,733 passengers of different nationalities, mainly from North America. --------------------------- In what other port could the government invest to attract more tourists?
