Open call issued to present projects to protect the environment

The Laboratory of Civic Innovation has issued a call to find innovate proposals from citizens to face environmental problems. Those that are accepted will be on display at a meeting from Oct. 29 to Nov. 10 in the town Liberia*, Guanacaste. The program was created by the Ministry of National Planning, the Ministry of Communication and EARTH University with the support of the Ibero-American General Secretariat. This is the first time a Central American country will host the program. The Ibero-American Community of Nations is made up of the 23 Spanish language countries with the goal to develop projects improving the nations. The laboratory is a model that has received awards from the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development and the European Commission as one of the most innovative globally for development cooperation promoting proposals from the people and for the people, said Pablo Pascale, representative of Ibero-American General Secretariat. The competition is open to any person who is resident in Costa Rica and develops innovative projects that generate environmental benefits such as clean water and sanitation, affordable and clean energy, sustainable cities and communities, responsible production and consumption, climate action, ecosystems among others. The closing for entries will be next Friday. Of all the proposals presented, 10 will be chosen. They will be announced July 8. The projects that are chosen will have the support of a team of mentors, technical specialists, and local mediators provided by the organization. "There will be more than 100 citizens from many countries gathered for two weeks to work on the development of 10 initiatives on issues of environment and climate change, solutions very connected to the needs of people," said Pascale. "These types of initiatives are important because they allow people to propose solutions to the problems we have in daily life and help the country to improve in important areas such as the environment and climate change," said Nancy Marín, minister of Communication. It is important that the solutions to the problems of the environment not only come from the government but from people get involved and propose alternatives to improve the quality of life, she said.
