The best Sub 16 surfers in the world who arrived in Costa Rica this week, Thursday took part in the first two rounds the expected world final of the Rip Curl GromSearch that takes place in Hermosa Beach* in Puntarenas. "Better known as the National Surfing Stadium, the wave in front of the facilities of the Backyard hotel, broke ideal for both the ‘Trials’and the first two keys of the main event to run," the Surf Federation in its statement. The results of the open trials for the best eight of the Kölbi National Circuit were as follows: Male classified competitors: Sam Reidy (Dominical Beach), Aaron Ramirez (Jaco Beach) and Tao Rodriguez (from Panama). Female classified competitors: Rubiana Brownell (Hazelnuts Beach), Valeria Ojeda (Jaco Beach), and Indiana Ferri (Puerto Viejo Beach). At the last minute, the international management of the event gave four more seats (wildcards), for a total of 7 (3 Boys and 2 Girls) to the best of the Kölbi circuit who in turn were measured with the qualifiers from Australia, United States United, Brazil, Portugal, Indonesia, France, Spain, New Zealand, Puerto Rico, Canada and England. In the rounds of the main event that were played on Thursday no one was disqualified. The Key 1 (seeding round) found all the competitors taking a place in the next round and the Key 2, caused the winners to jump two keys until the round prior to the quarterfinals. This competition format is normally used in the highest category of the WSL, the WCT, where the Costa Rican Brisa Hennessy runs. As of Friday, all heats will be of only two competitors, with the following two keys remaining, as follows: ROUND 2 - MALE Heat # 1 Taro Watanabe (USA) vs Will Masterman (UK) Heat # 2: Adur Amatrian (Spain) Vs Jack Lee (NZL) Heat # 3: Afonso Atunes (POR) Vs Kyllian Guerin (FRA) Heat # 4: Sam Reidy (CRI) vs. Manny Valentin (PRI) ROUND 2 - FEMALE Heat # 1: Melania Suarez (ESP) Vs Sophia Medina (BRA) Heat # 2: Caitlin Simmers (USA) Vs Alys Barton Heat # 3: Juliete Lacome (FRA) Vs Brie Bennett (NZL) Heat # 4: Concha Balsemao (POR) Vs Valeria Ojeda (CRI) Today the competition starts at 7:00 am and ends at noon. The final of the GromSearch in Hermosa Beach* starts on Saturday at 7 a.m. and ends at noon, followed by a concert that will take place at Hotel Backyard.
