Representatives of supermarket chain PriceSmart
visit Costa Rica in search of new products

Today, 40 Costa Rican exporters from the food and industrial sectors have the opportunity to present their products and meet with representatives of the PriceSmart Company from Central America, the Caribbean, and Colombia.

According to Promotora de Comercio Exterior, the meeting with these executives is a unique opportunity to sell products in 12 countries where supermarkets are located.

Costa Rican producers have the goal of exporting products such as food, personal care, cleaning and products for the home, through meetings with the buyers of PriceSmart.

"This is a unique opportunity for Costa Rican exporters, who on this occasion have the opportunity to meet decision makers from Central America, Colombia, and the Caribbean from PriceSmart (natural markets and with great potential for international expansion for Costa Rica),” said Pedro Beirute, manager of the commercial promoter.

These buyers come in search of products with the goal of supplying supermarkets in other countries. While it is true that there are national companies that are suppliers for PriceSmart in Costa Rica, "the idea is that - from the distribution center that the company has in our country - be exported to other markets and Costa Rican products," said Beirute.

Currently, PriceSmart Costa Rica has more than 100 national suppliers, of which 15 export to the corporation at a regional level, some of them are: Veterinary Central, Cook Food, Irex of Costa Rica, Bioland, Kitty Products, Nutrisnacks, Desinid , Clorox of Central America, Colchón Club, Metropolitan Valley Corporation, Pastas Roma, Tumbis, and Turrialba Food, among others.

In 2017, PriceSmart announced that it would invest in a regional distribution center built in El Coyol de Alajuela, to distribute to the entire region from Costa Rica.

PriceSmart, Inc. is the largest member purchasing club manager in Central America, the Caribbean, and Colombia, and has its regional office in Panama City. It has more than three million cardholders, and supermarkets in Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Aruba, Barbados, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, and the United States Virgin Islands.
