Two years after having inaugurated its first direct flight to Costa Rica, KLM Airline announced a new flight that will begin in October, from Europe to the Daniel Oduber Airport in Liberia*, Guanacaste, with a two-hour stopover in the Juan Santamaria Airport* in the province of Alajuela. On the announcement of this new flight, President Carlos Alvarado said that "tourism is the engine of our economy and this new connection is a growth opportunity not only for Guanacaste but also for Monteverde* and La Fortuna*, two regions visited by those who arrive at Costa Rica through Daniel Oduber International Airport. We thank KLM for their confidence in our sustainable tourism destination, recognized worldwide for its environmental protection efforts. " Flights will be made four times a week with a direct flight from Amsterdam with an intermediate landing in Alajuela starting on October 29, on Tuesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. The flights will be operated with a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, with 30 seats in business class, 45 seats in comfort class and 219 seats in economy class. Flight KL0717 / KL0719 will depart from Amsterdam -Schiphol at 11:35 a.m. and will arrive in San Jose at 17:15 local time. From there, the flight will depart at 7:15 p.m. to Liberia, Guanacaste to arrive at 8:10 p.m. After a brief 65-minute stop on land, the flight continues with the same flight number directly to Amsterdam -Schiphol, with an exit from Liberia, Guanacaste at 9:15 pm local time; to get to Amsterdam -Schiphol at 13:20 local time the next day. According to Pieter Elbers, CEO of KLM, "Guanacaste is the second largest region in Costa Rica. The region is known for its beautiful nature, which makes it a unique tourist destination in combination with San José. All this makes Liberia, Guanacaste a valuable addition to our KLM network. " |

The oldest airline in the world recognized and highly respected in the airline industry will connect Guanacaste with Amsterdam, opening the way to one of the largest and most efficient centers in Europe for passengers and cargo," said Maria Amalia Revelo, Minister of Tourism. The Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, the KLM operations center, is the third busiest airport in Europe in terms of passenger volume. "We are confident that this connection will increase visits to Guanacaste and stimulate a new era of growth for this region," said Revelo. KLM founded in 1919, is the oldest airline in the world that operates under its original name.
