Access to the highway at Traffic Circle road in Zapote will be closed at night this week |

The Ministry of Transport calls on drivers to increase precautionary measures when traveling on the road to the North Traffic Circle*, where there will be night closures for the protection of workers and machinery on the road. The closings will take place from eight at night to five in the morning until March 16. During those days the Ministry team will be placing pipes in the lower section of the road. "In the work area, the respective signage will be placed to adequately inform about the closure of that route. Cone will be in place to delimit the area and luminous detour arrows," the ministry said in its statement. According to the Ministry, construction is progressing according to plan. The construction of 733 piles that will be placed to support the highway began last week. As reported in A.M. Costa Rica, the construction of Traffic Circle was announced in January when President Carlos Alvarado inaugurated the start of the North Traffic Circle* in Zapote*, San José. This new highway construction is being financed with a loan of $17.6 million from the Central American Bank for Economic Integration. President Alvarado said "these works are of the highest importance for the economic reactivation of the country." The Traffic Circle will have a length of 864 meters, with an overpass of 550 meters. The Minister of Public Works, Rodolfo Méndez, said the traffic circle will have six lanes, three in each direction (upper step) and four in the lower lane, two in each direction along 500 meters in length. Throughout the process, the Traffic Police have been maintaining a presence in the area to regulate access in order to guarantee the free passage of vehicles. The work is being developed in four phases: 1. The first part was the transfer of the monument of Social Guarantees, cutting of trees and relocation of public services. 2. Then, the construction of west and east ramps enabling central lanes to maintain the flow during the construction stage. |

3. Work on the bridge on pre-excavated piles and beam header. Modification of the current rotunda, construction of a bridge 103 meters long and re-installation of the monument to Social Guarantees. 4. Construction of the traffic circle. The main shaft will be excavated, for which the bridge and pylon screens must already be built. The transit of Route 39 will be maintained on the ramps previously built, always in two lanes in each direction. According to the ministry's work plan, construction is scheduled to be completed in January 2020. Approximately 120 workers were required for the projects.
