Government supports actions on Venezuela
decided on by the Organization of American States

By the A.M. Costa Rica staff

The government made a call about Venezuela yesterday to the Permanent Council of the Organization of American States expressing agreement with its actions, "so that the constitutional order is restored in Venezuela as soon as possible."

Montserrat Solano, ambassador in the organization, said that Costa Rica, consistent with its commitment to the promotion of democracy, the rule of law and awareness of the need for respect for human rights in Venezuela in accordance with international law, joins “the call to the international community to unite efforts so that the constitutional order is established in Venezuela as soon as possible."

Consequently, the government would support the actions adopted by the National Assembly to solve the crisis in Venezuela.

Ambassador Solano also said that the electoral process of May 20, 2018 in Venezuela "lacked legitimacy" and that "we have condemned the breakdown of the constitutional order and the rule of law in Venezuela.”  For those reasons, Costa Rica does not recognize the legitimacy of the Maduro regime which began on January 10, 2019.

Ambassador Solano added that the security and protection of interim president Juan Guaidó and all members of the National Assembly and their families must be guaranteed, and they must be allowed to exercise, without limitations, the attributions legitimately entrusted to them by the assembly of Venezuela.

Ambassador Solano added that the security and protection of interim president Juan Guaidó and all members of the National Assembly and their families must be guaranteed.

The Maduro regime in Venezuela has been widely boycotted by the opposition, and the opposition has described it as a farce saying that the election was rigged in his favor. Governments around the world also described the election as illegitimate.
